Two-time DTM Champion, 31-year-old Audi driver Mattias Ekstrom, has received an invitation from the Red Bull Racing team to test a Sprint Cup NASCAR racer at the Virginia International Raceway road course in Virginia (USA).
Ekstrom, who has been backed by Red Bull for the past nine years, will make his maiden NASCAR outing in the No 83 car, which was usually driven by Brian Vickers, now sidelined for the rest of the season due to a treatment he currently undergoes to dissolve blood clots discovered on him.
The Swede could drive the No 83 Toyota in the Sonoma road course event on June 20. The Watkins Glen race of August 8 is not possible as it conflicts with the Nurburgring round of the DTM.
