Veteran Sprint Cup driver Mark Martin (Chevy No 5) won the LifeLock.com 400 Sprint Cup race at the Chicagoland Speedway Saturday evening in a very spectacular way.
Actually, the race was very quiet until the last 50 laps. After a yellow flag neutralisation, the race took off in a more active way with accidents and other yellow flags until the lap 251 of 267.
On the restart, Martin retook his lead from Jimmie Johnson (Chevy No 48) but on lap 261, Kyle Busch (Camry No 18) blew an engine causing another yellow flag situation. With only three laps to go, the race restarted but Martin went right back to the front to grab the checkered flag followed by Jeff Gordon (Chevy No 24), Kasey Kahne (Dodge No 9), Tony Stewart (Chevy No 14) and Denny Hamlin (Camry No 11).
Since Martin and Gordon came in first and second, sponsor LifeLock awarded a $1million prize to a lucky spectator. The deal was that if Martin and Gordon finished in the two first positions like they did in Michigan earlier in the year, a lucky fan who participated in the contest would win the million bucks.
Finally, Tony Stewart still leads the Sprint Cup championship followed by Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch (Dodge No 2) and Denny Hamlin.
There is no Sprint Cup race next week-end but the teams will be back in action at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 26.
