NASCAR: News or no news?

Don't you all feel like you are in your doctor's waiting room looking through all the magazines trying to find something, anything on NASCAR?

Usually, at this time of the year, teams have begun testing. But as you know, any testing at tracks where NASCAR has an official event is banned.

So news concerning NASCAR are pretty scarce other than the fact that Michael Waltrip agrees with the test ban because, according to him, pre-season testing costs millions to teams (there's also the story about Robby Gordon who is doing fine in the Dakar). For the moment being, other than the state of the economy, the merging of teams is the only real story.

How many fans are wondering what's going to happen with the newly formed DEI-Ganassi racing team? Dodges are out, Chevy's are in. Even Montoya will have to get to know his car from scratch.

Who's going to drive the No 41 car? And what about the GEM-Petty merger? Imagine the Petty team has disappeared after some 60 years of racing! Who's going to drive the famous No 43? Rumours tell us that Sorensen might drive the No 43 as Sadler is back in the No 19 GEM car...leaving A.J. out in the cold...unless major sponsors are found for the No 10 Dodge.

And David Gilliland could also be left hanging out since the Yates racing team is now associated with the Hall Of Fame No 96 Ford. Yes, HOF has gone from Toyota to Ford now that it is not a team associated to Joe Gibbs Racing anymore...) driven by Bobby Labonte.

Travis Kvapil (Ford No 28) will now have Paul Menard as teammate (Menard has brought his sponsorship from DEI to Yates). Will that be enough for Yates to win another Championship like it did in 1999 with Dale Jarrett? How will Tony Stewart (Chevy No 14) and his new teammate Ryan Newman do within their new team?

There is less than a month to go before Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World drivers hit the track at Daytona. By that time, let's hope most teams will have found solid sponsorship and that the season will get under way and that fan will respond to so many race tracks that have lowered the price of race tickets.
