Furniture Row Racing Steps Up

Furniture Row Racing, the Denver Colorado-based single-car Sprint Cup team, took another step to be competitive with the major three and four-car teams in NASCAR’s top division as it announced a technical alliance with Richard Childress Racing (RCR).

“Being a single-car team against the mega, multicar teams has put us at a huge disadvantage over the years,” said team general manager, Joe Garone.

“Now that we have formed an alliance with RCR, we will have the ability to be secured in the top 35 and keep a better pace with the other multicar teams.

“RCR has always been a leader and a winner, and we are proud to be affiliated with Richard Childress and his outstanding organization. ”

Since driver Regan Smith finished in the top-35 in the points standings last year, he’s guaranteed a start in the first five Sprint Cup races.

“The new people, the RCR alliance plus an already strong foundation bring a new spirit and it’s all great,” added Smith. “I’ve never been this pumped prior to the start of the season. And to know that we don’t have to go through the gut-wrenching qualifying process – especially at Daytona – is an incredible relief.”

JR Motorsports Places Two in BusinessWeek’s Power 100

The business world counts the bottom line, while the racing world counts the checkered flag. JR Motorsports co-owner, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his latest driver, Danica Patrick, were recognized by the business community as two of the top 100 most commanding athletes.

Bloomberg BusinessWeek determined its 100 most powerful athletes by teaming with sports entertainment company CSE and Rick Horrow of Horrow Sports Ventures.

Determining factors included on-field metrics such as performance and popularity and off-field metrics such as endorsement income, public awareness, trustworthiness, appeal, and influence

Earnhardt was ranked 45th, and Patrick who will run a full-time IndyCar program (for Andretti Autosport) and at least 12 NASCAR Nationwide races for JRM was ranked 88th.

Boris is Back – for at least five Sprint Cup races

Lee Spencer, of Fox Sports, reports that Boris Said will be in the #36 Ford, owned by Bill Jenkins, which will be prepared by former owner Roush Fenway Racing for the first five Cup races.

Former Roush crew chief, Frankie Stoddard, who worked with Jeff Burton, will hold a similar title at the team called Latitude Motorsports.
