NASCAR officials revealed the entire Sprint Cup 2012 schedule in a novel way via an interactive Twitter session on Wednesday.
“We believe the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule will once again provide fans with what they’ve come to expect every season – the world’s most exciting and competitive form of motorsports,” said Brian France, NASCAR chairman and CEO in a statement. “Next year’s schedule has a few adjustments that we think will be good for the fans and good for the overall flow of the season. One thing will remain constant, however, and that’s the intense competition we see week in and week out from our drivers and race teams.”
The biggest changes in the schedule start with the, previously announced, Daytona 500 being moved back one week from its’ usual Presidents’ weekend date to February 26th. This means that the Phoenix and California races are pushed back one week from this year’s schedule and those dates follow the Daytona 500 respectively to March 4 and March 11th.
Texas Motor Speedway’s spring race has been moved back one week to April 14th to leave an open date on the Easter holiday. Kansas Speedway, which added a second date this year, will have a Spring race on April 22nd.Talladega is moved back to May 6th and Dover returns to its’ traditional date of June 3rd.
Kentucky Speedway’s race date will be June 30th and the Daytona will follow on July 7th.
Talladega will also move up two weeks to October 7th, fourth in the Chase, to accommodate Kansas Speedway’s repaving project by swapping dates, thus the Kansas race will take place on October 21rst.
NASCAR will also release the 2012 schedules for the NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at a later date.
