After a year which saw many NASCAR qualifying days rained out, series officials announced that when bad weather cancels qualifying the final starting lineup will be determined by practice speeds.

If the bad weather also canceled practice qualifying positions would be determined by point’s standings which is the previous rule overall. The top 35 in owner point’s lock-in has not been changed.

When there is qualifying the driver with the slowest speed will go out first with the fastest going last. The top 35 in owner points go out first followed by those who must qualify on speed.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams now are allowed five sets of tires for practice and qualifying instead of six. They must return four of those sets to Goodyear in order to receive their race allotment, and may keep one set of practice/qualifying tires. Tire allotments for race weekends will vary according to historical performance data.

Closed Loop Fueling System – Introduced in the NASCAR Camping World

Truck Series, this goes into effect for all three national series in 2011. NASCAR says “It combines a more efficient fueling system with the elimination of the catch-can man, considered the most “vulnerable” pit-crew member. Teams now will use six, rather than seven, over-the-wall pit-crew members.

At the present time teams are still receiving parts of this new fueling system which requires a very precise seating of the fuel nozzle into the filler. Many expect this to translate into longer pit stops.
