Nashville Speedway becomes the second NASCAR-sanctioned track to be off the schedule in less than one month.
Dover Motorsports, Inc. owners of the 1.33 mile concrete-paved oval issued the following statement, "Vice President and General Manager of Nashville Superspeedway, Cliff Hawks, stated, "Nashville is a tremendous market filled with passionate race fans. We have some extremely dedicated and talented employees who have made this track a great destination, but the reality is, after ten years of effort, we have to face the fact that without a Sprint Cup race and/or a significant change in the operating model for other events, we simply cannot continue."
The facility located outside the home of the country and western recording community is known for its' iconic Sam Bass artwork laden Gibson guitar winner's trophy.
Two weeks ago the Nationwide Series event at Nashville's pre-race invocation by Pastor, Joe Nelms, went viral on YouTube for his Talladega Nights-homage to "his smoking hot wife."
Last month the Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced that it would host the summer Nationwide race along with Sprint Cup and Grand-Am that ended the lengthy run at Lucas Oil Raceway which has been formerly known as Indianapolis Raceway Park and O'Reilly Raceway Park.
Nashville Superspeedway has 25,000 permanent grandstand seats, lights for nighttime racing, foundation work for a dirt track, short track and drag strip and infrastructure in place to expand to 150,000 seats.
IndyCar also previously ran races at the track.
The track also said it has a few events left on the schedule for the remainder of 2011 that will not be impacted by today's announcement.
