Now closer to the iconic 911

The world premiere of the new, third-generation 2019 Porsche Cayenne took place minutes ago in Germany. And boy, the automaker has thought of everything.

Here we have a lighter (up to 65 kg thanks to an all-aluminum body), longer and wider Cayenne that offers improved handling, power and efficiency for a driving experience that’s closer to that of the iconic 911 sports car. In fact, the big SUV now has mixed tires and rear-axle steering for the first time. This is backed by active all-wheel drive, Porsche 4D Chassis Control, a three-chamber air suspension and the Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) electronic roll stabilisation system.

The new Porsche Cayenne is launching in two variants: The base Cayenne with a 3.0L turbo 6-cylinder engine delivers 340 hp and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds (5.9 seconds with the Sport Chrono Package), while the Cayenne S boasts a 2.9L twin-turbo V6 engine that’s rated at 440 hp and reaches 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds (4.9 seconds with Sport Chrono Package. More powerful engines will be added later and the E-Hybrid model will of course be back.

Drivers will have a choice of four modes: Normal, Sport, Sport Plus along with an individually configurable mode. As for the new 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission, it delivers shorter response times and sportier ratios in the lower gears to enhance both on-road performance and off-road capability.

Standard equipment with the 2019 Porsche Cayenne will now include LED main headlights, larger wheels, ParkAssist (front and rear), an LTE phone module including a WiFi hotspot, a 12.3" HD touchscreen, Porsche Connect services and anticipatory pedestrian protection. The interior has been redesigned for greater comfort and connectivity.

As for exterior styling, Porsche says it wanted to accentuate the character of the vehicle, which is “more precise, elegant, athletic and expressive,” as you can see in the pics below.

The 2019 Porsche Cayenne will be available in Canada next summer with pricing starting from $75,500. Prices for the Cayenne S begin at $92,600.
