A breathtaking new performance car is making its debut at Sebring this week. Originally from Britain, the Deronda, from Autosport Development, is in the US for its launch preceding production and sales there.
It's a UK designed roadster intended for driving thrills- and the company says it makes test drivers giggle as they whip around road courses.
Deronda is targeted at customers who already own a high-end exotic sportscar, like a Ferrari Enzo, who want to race but don't wish to risk their investment at the track.
David Moxlow is the president of Autosport Development. He says "The Deronda is basically a road ready two-seater formula car. You can drive it to the track, race it to your heart's content, and then drive it home and park it in the garage."
"At $70,000, the Deronda Sports Car is not exactly in the toy category, even for rich people" he adds. "But the car is solid, low maintenance, and built from available componentry, so we think it will attract a whole range of enthusiastic customers who can only dream about owning the Ferrari."
The available componentry he speaks of includes the engine and gearbox- namely Audi groups 5-valve 1.8 litre turbo engine and a Porsche 5-speed transmission. The combination directs 250 brake horsepower to the tarmac, good for sub 4-second 0-60 figures.
Production in USA begins in May.
