Car manufacturers often carry in-house tuned performance models to offer buyers extra power, grip and a more dynamic driving experience. BMW's tuner shop is called "M", while Mercedes call their speed department AMG. Chrysler's mad scientists are confined to the SRT department, and now Toyota's luxury division, Lexus, is nearly set to introduce a new "F" designated IS model. Powered by a V8, the new Lexus IS-F will appeal to sports car enthusiasts with a "substantial" boost in power, joining the pair of six-cylinder equipped IS models currently available.
The engine is said to be the 4.6 litre V8 mill from the new LS460 and will likely also feature its 8-speed gearbox with paddle shifters. Driving enthusiasts will be disappointed to hear that there will be no manual transmission offered.
Intended to take a bite out of a market dominated by vehicles like the BMW M3, the Lexus IS-F will no doubt be a cost effective way for owners to experience power and refinement characteristic of similarly equipped vehicles from European manufacturers.
The IS-F designated model goes on sale next year after a press conference at the NAIAS this January.
Lexus has also announced that they will unveil a new exotic sports car concept, though details are currently sparse at best.
