EVO without a clutch pedal, Mitsubishi has taken the opportunity to introduce an all-new 'clutchless', 'auto-manual' six-speed gearbox. Unreleased are details on what kind of unit it is - sequential, dual-clutch, or even high-performance CVT - but what we do know is that it has six ratios, a reverse drive and WRC-style paddles for quick actuation.
For those currently engaged in the STI vs. EVO battle, Mitsubishi is upping the ante with a revised version of its sublime all-wheel drive system. Now called S-AWC, standing for Super All Wheel Control, it builds upon existing technology proven in previous generations of Lancers, plus never-before seen tech to raise the bar in vehicle dynamics. Brake Control, Active Steering System and the Roll Control suspension to further integrate the vehicle's handling, braking and ride characteristics into traction and power delivery. The technology is simply mind-blowing.
Keen to stress that the new EVO is now capable of targeting the likes of the Mercedes-Benz C55, Audi RS4 or BMW's upcoming V8-powered M3, Mitsubishi offers a new cabin that actually takes modern interior styling themes into account! Brittle and shiny plastics were what buyers had to previously accept when opting for the outgoing model, but this is no longer the case; the concept demonstrates Mitsubishi's intent with ultra-cool matte black and brushed alloy trim details. Futuristic shapes, such as the thin hollow console with its toggle-style controls, looped metal shifter, flat-bottomed steering wheel, and angular metal door panels, are a big step forward.
