Nissan LEAF

Despite the arrival on the market of more advanced and efficient electric models, the LEAF continues to demonstrate its relevance by offering consumers an affordable and reliable product. Nissan is making very few changes for 2024, apart from a tweak of the model range. There are now only two trims, the SV with a battery capacity of 40 kWh, and the SV Plus with a capacity of 60 kWh and increased charging power from 50 to 100 kW.

With the Chevrolet Bolt EV now off the market, the LEAF becomes one of the last truly affordable electric cars. With a starting price of $44,584 - including all costs - it is eligible for a federal government discount and a provincial one where applicable. This is truly affordable for middle-class consumers. Even the most expensive model in the range, the SV Plus variant, is a relative bargain in the EV segment.

Some will argue that the 240 km range of the base model (342 km for the SV Plus version) isn't enough for their needs, but these figures don't seem to bother the thousands of LEAF owners currently plying our roads.

Nissan Ariya

The new Ariya signals Nissan's second chapter of electrification, and it competes in one of today's most popular segments, that of mid-size electric SUVs. Admittedly, it took Nissan a long time to evolve its electric offering, but the Ariya - thanks to its wide range of variants and prices - is well equipped to take on the competition. Rivals include the Tesla Model Y, Volkswagen ID.4, Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5/Kia EV6, Toyota bZ4X/Subaru Solterra, VinFast VF 8 and Chevrolet Blazer EV.

Having been introduced to the range in 2023, the Ariya remains unchanged this year. It continues with its two choices of battery capacities (63 and 87 kWh) and is offered in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Ariya doesn't break any new ground in terms of range (up to 489 km) and recharging speed (130 kW), but it does emphasize comfort, build quality and space on board. That's what makes it so attractive to consumers.
