The Canadian and U.S. governments are increasing their efforts to curb distracted driving, particularly the use of cell phones behind the wheel. Commercial truck drivers are exempt from the new laws, but the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) wants the situation to change.

The federal agency is now calling for a complete ban on cell phone use by commercial truck drivers, except for emergencies.

Back in March 2010, in Kentucky, a tractor trailer driver talking on the phone hit a 15-passenger van and killed 11 people, including children. This tragic accident immediately prompted the NTSB and Department of Transportation Secretary Ray Lahood, known for his crusade against distracted driving, to demand changes to the current legislation.

Since these vehicles often weigh more than 40 tons and prove deadlier in the event of a collision, do you believe their drivers should be forbidden to use a cell phone behind the wheel like every other driver?
