Last July, we reported that Porsche was toying with the idea of resuscitating the legendary Porsche 550 made popular in the 1950s by the great James Dean.
However, Porsche’s CEO, Matthias Mueller, told German magazine Wirtschaftswoche that the public might consider the new roadster as just a clumsy bid to increase the brand’s visibility and sales, much like the new Cajun compact SUV set to be launched next year.
The roadster option isn’t totally off the table, it would seem. The German automaker prefers to wait for the next generation of consumers and postpone the launch of a worthy successor to the Porsche 550, until 2014.
In the meantime, Porsche is still thinking about introducing a new sports car that would slot between the 911 GT2 and 918 Spyder, price-wise.
