The Fiesta R2 is M-Sport’s first global rally car and is based on the Ford Fiesta Sport model. With the introduction of the Fiesta R2 and the Fiesta Super 2000, it will allow competitors to graduate in Ford cars from national level right through to the WRC.

The R2 has been built from a standard conversion kit developed by British enterprise M-Sport. The kit to convert the car to rally specification includes engine parts to lift the engine performance.

The gearbox has also been replaced for a sequential shift unit with a limited slip differential, as have the brakes and Reiger suspension.

Beyond these specific items, M-Sport has used as many standard Ford components as possible in order to reduce costs for the competitor. Ford Fiesta R2 championships are currently being held in Belgium, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, New Zealand, Poland, Sweden, Russia, Great Britain and Finland.

And now, Ford Racing Performance Group is bringing the Fiesta R2 rally kit to the U.S., and indirectly, Canada.

The package (which costs f £20,595 in England, or $42,000) offers a series of performance upgrades including powertrain enhancements to the 1.6-liter Ti-VCT four-cylinder engine to deliver 168 horsepower and 134 lb.-ft. of torque, a 40% increase in horsepower.

We recently had the chance to be taken for a (wild) ride in the Team O’Neal-prepared Fiesta R2 driven by Chris Duplessis in New Hampshire. Duplessis competes in the two-wheel drive category of the Rally America national series.
