A very competitive field of 43 cars will take to the forest roads in the Quebec Laurentians this weekend for the fourth round of Canadian Rally Championship, the very popular rally Défi Ste-Agathe.
For the occasion, Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada will have a record brigade of 12 cars looking for the outright win or a class victory. But all will benefit from the constructor's support and contingency program and compete for the Mitsubishi Cup for the most deserving crew in 2008. The 12 Mitsubishi entries will star a string of quick EVO machines, a few production and Ralliart Lancers and even a Galant.
Four of those teams are determined to charge for the podium. Mathieu L'Estage and codriver Yanick Napert are now leading in points for the Mitsubishi Cup and lie third in the national standings with their Evo 5 machine. Andrew Comrie-Picard with American Marc Goldfarb will bounce back from their DNF in New-Richmond to conquer the Laurentian country roads. Jon Nichols and Mike Koch as well as William Bacon and Peter Watt are regular Top 5 customers and will be podium contenders.
Zbigniew Szewczyk and Tomasz Karzynski from Calgary will look for another Group 5 win to take the lead in the class. Jen Horsey and Elise Racette will fight it out with Winnipeg Jan and Jody Zedril for the production P3 class win in their respective Lancers.
Mitsubishi can rely on the strong Boisvert dealership entries and team leader Réjean Losier. Simon, Martin, Patrick and Maxime have always done well in Quebec events. Simon is presently 5th in the national standings and third for the Cup.
"We keep adding to our Mitsubishi car total round after round," declares Peter Renz, Director of Marketing of Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada. "Our support and contingency program is doing what we expected: help the crews who drive our products to be even better in what I consider to be the toughest challenge for man and machine in motorsports. We take a lot of pride each time one of these teams steps on a podium or clinches a class victory. Finally, there is a tug-of-war going on between a few drivers for the Mitsubishi Cup and this may well go down to the wire at the last event in November."
The fourth round of the Canadian Rally Championship, the Défi Ste-Agathe/Laurentians will be staged this weekend. The start will take place in Ste-Agathe Friday at 6:00 pm with five speed sections in the evening. Saturday will be a long day with the crews traveling to the Outaouais region and stages held in Montpellier, Duhamel, Ripon and St-Sixte localities.
"Rally Défi is a real spectator event", adds Mr. Renz. "It draws the largest crowds in the year. Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada will showcase a promotional kiosk and meet with the hordes of fans."
