Land Rover Range Rover Velar, Auto123.com’s 2018 Luxury SUV of the Year

The all-new Land Rover Range Rover Velar won our Luxury SUV of the Year trophy during the 2018 Auto123.com Awards ceremony, held this past November 22nd in Toronto. It beat out the two other finalists in the category, namely the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Volvo XC90.

A design masterpiece with true Land Rover off-road capabilities, the Range Rover Velar is a sleek and stylish luxury SUV that slots into the automaker’s lineup between the Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. A refined beast no matter the setting or terrain it is placed in, the Velar is a glamourous vehicle through and through, built to excite the emotions—something that’s clear even from just looking at its distinctive matrix-laser LED headlights.

This new model was designed from a blank sheet and features Jaguar Land Rover’s lightweight aluminum architecture and sustainable materials. Said architecture also underpins the Jaguar F-PACE (voted 2017 World Car of the Year), however quality levels are a lot higher in the Land Rover. Inside, look for two 10-inch touchscreen displays and an all-new, cutting-edge infotainment system dubbed Touch Pro Duo.

In Canada, the Range Rover Velar is available with two engine configurations: a 2.0L Ingenium diesel engine offering 180 hp and a supercharged V6 gasoline engine with a total of 380 hp. Each one is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

What Land Rover has to say…

“Range Rover Velar leads the way in progressive design. Clean, elegant and distinctive, the vehicle has a striking, contemporary presence. Wherever you go in Range Rover Velar, eyes will follow. The cabin exudes elegant simplicity. From Configurable Ambient Interior Lighting to the split sliding armrests, everything has been designed and crafted to help you and your passengers arrive relaxed.”
