In a bold move, the government of British Columbia is about to invest $17 million to encourage the purchase of environmentally friendly vehicles, protect the environment, and support the province's green technology sector.
Starting December 1st, 2011, consumers who purchase one of many qualifying green cars – including the Nissan LEAF, Mitsubishi i-MiEV, Tesla Roadster, Toyota Prius, and Chevrolet Volt – will see the sticker price slashed by up to $5,000.
Over $6 million in provincial funding will serve to implement a new charging station network across B.C. Homeowners looking to install their own charging stations at home will receive a discount of up to $500 on qualifying models.
This new initiative ties in with an extra $2.5 million in funding for BC SCRAP-IT, a non-profit organization working to remove dirty vehicles from the roads of B.C.
