Steam Whistle Brewing of British Columbia touts itself as the greenest brewer in Canada. Company sales director Mike Kiraly and his team of car enthusiasts transformed the pride of the Steam Whistle fleet, a 1958 Chevrolet Apache pickup, into a 100% electric, green (literally) delivery truck.
With the help of a crew including Azure Dynamics’s chief engineer Trevor Stoker, Kiraly adapted a high-output AC engine powered by 24 lithium-ion batteries.
According to Steam Whistle, the aptly named RETRO ELECTRO produces 465 ft-lb of torque, has a range of 150 km and can be recharged in eight hours from a 220V/30A outlet.
Steam Whistle has an entire fleet of vintage vehicles, each with its own nickname, including a 1967 Ford Econoline Heavy Duty, a 1964 Jeep Wagoneer, a 1956 Dodge Fargo and even a 1965 Ford Blue Bird.
