Rolls-Royce Motor Cars announced this week that it has begun testing of its new aluminum-based space-frame architecture. Initially unveiled by the British luxury carmaker in February 2015, the new architecture will underpin all upcoming Rolls Royce production model lines.
Preserving the Magic Carpet Ride
Test models will be driven on public roads around the world, in varying conditions. The main goal of the testing will be to ensure that the drive provided by the new architecture will meet Rolls Royce’s exacting standards in terms of drive smoothness on any surface and in any weather conditions.
The assessment of the testing phase will be the first stage in eventually bringing to market the first Rolls Royce model to feature the aluminum-based architecture. This is expected for spring 2018.
In announcing the beginning of the testing phase, Chief Executive Officer of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Torsten Müller-Ötvös explained, “Now it is time to take the next step in the luxury journey. This new architecture of pure luxury represents considerable investment in the future of our great brand.”
