Frenchman Tristan Vautier finished what he had begun in pre-season testing: he won the second round of the Star Mazda Series, in Barber Motorsports Park, where he had completely dominated both in qualifying and before the season kicked-in.

“I got into a good rhythm and the car was very fast without trying too hard, so I just drove at a comfortable pace and was surprised to finish so far ahead,” said Vautier.

“The next races are ovals, and I have a lot to learn about racing on them, but the team is working very well together and we all have confidence in each other, which is the most important thing."

Vautier, who started on the pole, built a 33-second lead to Nick Andries who had an incredible performance, starting in 9th position on the grid.

Scoring her frist podium in career was Columbian driver Tatiana Calderon, the only female driver in the field. Calderon’s teammate J.V. Horto finished in fourth after failing to take the third spot.

Carlos Linares, who had started in 14th position completed the top-5.

Meanwhile AMA Superbike racer Larry Pegram, who started from the pole in the Expert Series, also won the race. He finished 8th overall after starting in 13th. It was a first win for him in this division.

Interesting twist to this race was the battle between Connor De Phillippi and his friend Patrick McKenna. After touching each other’s in the tunnel, they were forced to resolve to end of field places with De Phillippi in 10th and McKenna in 14th.

Quebecker Jérimy Daniel finished where he had started, in second-to-last position, trailing the winner by three laps.
