Bark Buckle UP, an organization that promotes pet safety while travelling, warns against the dangers of travelling with our pets.
According to the American organization, which plans on expanding to Canada, "a 27-kilogram dog becomes more than 1.2 tonnes of mass in a vehicle travelling at just 55 km/h." In a frontal collision, the animal can become a serious safety hazard.
In order to ensure the safety of both pets and people, the organization strongly recommends the use of a crate or safety harness that allows you to secure the animal with a seat belt.
Each year, Bark Buckle UP recognizes a Pet Safe Vehicle of Choice. Volvo's XC90 earned the title in 2008 thanks to its vertical separator, an accessory which splits the cargo area in two and creates two separate closed spaces once the tailgate is down, perfect for safely restraining your pet.
