A recent study shows that consumers aren't very interested in using social media like Facebook and Twitter through vehicle systems. They're more interested in specific applications that can be useful when they're driving, like real-time weather forecasts and nearby parking availability.

"This is again reminding you that you have to be careful not to confuse the car with your mobile phone or your laptop," said Thilo Koslowski, a technology analyst at Gartner.

Roughly 82% of vehicle owners wouldn't mind paying extra dollars for such in-car options as Internet radio and advanced safety systems – up from 20% a few years ago. In China, it's 99%.
