Mexico may be an unusual birthplace for a high-performance sports car, but than again, the same could arguably be said for Canada.
Whatever. The Mastretta MXT is a 2,050-pound, rear-drive, mid-engined, 2-seater sports car with chunky, muscular styling and a very basic cockpit. It’s powered by a Ford-sourced, turbo 2.0-litre Duratec inline-4 that develops 250 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque, and mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
According to Mastretta, the car is capable of a top speed of 240 km/h and should accelerate to 100 km/h in under 6 seconds.
The company confirmed today that sales of the MXT have started in Mexico, and after European homologation will be complete in a couple of months, the car will be available in France and the UK.
As for the U.S. and Canada, no partner has yet been found in order to set up a sales and service network. The company is currently mulling on whether they should offer the MXT as a “component car” in the U.S., at least for now.
