It looks like our governments are spineless when it comes time to force car manufacturers to reduce their fuel consumption and their greenhouse gas emissions, as we've seen when M. Dion, our federal environmental minister, announced that he came to an agreement with the main automobile manufacturers that they VOLUNTARILY reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, the companies stating that producing cars that consume less is too costly in research & development. Maybe they should just reissue their 1985 models?
So, what is the solution? What's it going to take to convince manufacturers and drivers alike? I'm starting to think that it will take another oil crisis, which would be very bad news for our economy, but what else?
Isn't it a fact that our world oil supplies are diminishing, and that within a maximum of 50 years, there will be none left? Isn't it also a fact that fossil fuel combustion also contributes in a big way to global warming?
Well, since oil is getting rare and consuming too much, too fast is bad for humanity, the rational solution would be to take the necessary measures by reducing the useless horsepower in our vehicles which will in return reduce our harmful emissions, and mostly, our greenhouse gas emissions. Wouldn't it?
Oh, that's right, I forgot... we are not rational people.
