Mitsubishi Outlander (gas-only and PHEV)
For 2025, the popular Outlander soldiers on, powered by either a gas or PHEV powertrain as well as one of the best warranties on the planet.
The PHEV model is able to cruise for up to 61 km on EV power alone, which means that for many Canadians that can plug in at home, the Outlander can run as a full EV as opposed to a hybrid.
In addition to the powertrain strength, the Outlander is a much more comfortable place to sit after a 2022 redesign brought more luxurious materials and better in-car tech.
Nissan Rogue (gas-only)
Much of the Outlander’s 2022 transformation is thanks to the plucky Nissan Rogue with which it shares a platform. Unlike the Mitsubishi, however, the Rogue doesn’t get a PHEV variant, Nissan instead electing to rely on a small 1.5L turbocharged three-cylinder motor for efficiency. It makes 201 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque, sent through a CVT automatic for optimal efficiency and smoothness.
Also new for 2025 is a more rugged Rock Creek edition as the Rogue follows in the footsteps of its larger Pathfinder sibling. That adds all-terrain tires, tubular roof rack and a 12-volt outlet in the cargo area.
