5. 42nd Street at 6th Avenue in 1979
A beautiful 1971 Plymouth Satellite family car is driving on its own on 42nd Street. Two more-modern cabs can be seen in the background, including Chevrolet vehicles that appeared in 1977.
6. Intersection of Grand and Mott Streets, 1970
A 1969 Buick Riviera readies to make a left turn between an old bus and an International van. Given the vehicles that make it up, it’s a scene that would be virtually impossible to reproduce today.
7. The Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, towards the Kosciuszko Bridge
It was this picture that first caught my attention on Facebook, because for a moment I thought I was looking at the Jacques Cartier Bridge in Montreal, Quebec. In the background, we can see two tanks dating from the Second World War. These were used to store gasoline and were known as the Maspeth tanks, the name of the street where they were located. They were destroyed in July 2001. On the bridge, there are many interesting cars. Notice the front of the 1968 Chevrolet that’s closest to the camera, moving away; it’s losing parts.
