From the old to the brand-new we go, with the 2020 Hyundai Palisade, a power forward that takes the place of the Santa Fe XL in the Korean automaker’s lineup this year. It’s built to provide a better environment for families who like a little adventure. Indeed, the design is clearly more truck-like than the Santa Fe, and the quality of construction is improved.
As for the powertrain, it’s not a revolutionary unit, but then it’s better than many others out there on the market. On the whole, the Palisade is a pleasant surprise.

“Hyundai has done good work and the new SUV delivers what you could hope for from a vehicle of this type. The chassis is quite stiff, in fact it’s 40.4% more rigid than that of the departing Santa Fe XL. The ride is exceptionally smooth, as is the steering. Overall, it makes for a very reassuring drive. Just don’t expect much in terms of actual, honest-to-good pleasure.”
