Volkswagen purists have been brandishing crosses and garlic in front of this VW pachyderm, but the reality in North America is such that the Wolfsburg-based manufacturer needs utility models.
The 2019 Volkswagen Atlas is less refined that the old Touareg, but it does deliver a modicum of driving pleasure in this category focused mainly on comfort, space and cargo capacity. In the case of the Atlas, the best bet might be to go for the V6 engine, the 4-cylinder turbo being a little scrawny for this pachyderm.
