It has become impossible to treat separately the two pickup trucks from Japanese giant Toyota, because we know their development is being done conjointly. Reports last April hinted at a common platform for the two models.

First off, we know we’re getting a big revision of the Tundra, which hasn’t changed since 2014 – and even then, the structure of the model dates back to 2007.

It appears that the new architecture of the truck will also underpin the next-generation Tacoma. For now, that model is getting some upgrades for 2020. In both cases, hybrid technology is part of the discussion.

We’re not really likely to see the new versions of these trucks appear in 2020, but we’re very likely to hear a lot about them and the form they will eventually take. Our prediction: if one of them is unveiled this year, as a 2021 model, it will be the Tundra.
