Some notes on the market's latest man-to-media interfaces
Lexus
In new Lexus products, massive and vibrant display screens set the stage for an advanced communications, navigation and multimedia experience. Split-screen functionality lets drivers watch their navigation map and music playlist in real time. Steering-wheel mounted audio controls and voice-command add further ease of use. With screen sizes exceeding 12 inches, your living room television might start to get jealous.

But the unique haptic-feedback controller that powers Lexus’s ‘Remote Touch Control’ interface is the real stand-out feature here. Consisting of a highly ergonomic ‘track pad’ built into a palm-rest that falls at the driver’s side, it allows manipulation of hundreds of functions with little more than a few millimeters of fingertip movement. The controller moves an on-screen cursor for selection, and ‘clicks’ to position on each on-screen button—allowing drivers to ‘feel’ their way through menus and controls with minimal effort.
