1905 Buick C
This exceptional Buick Model C from 1905 was produced under the leadership of David Dunbar Buick. Notable among its main features, the 4-cylinder engine had overhead valves – on the first engines of this type to be mass-produced. Incidentally, the general manager at Buick was no other than William Durant, who would go on to buy Buick in 1908 to help him found General Motors.
Tahoe DARPA
General Motors started to look seriously into autonomous vehicles in 2007. This Chevrolet Tahoe, nicknamed “Boss”, was conceived to be self-driving and to take part in the DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Project Agency) Urban Challenge. Collaborators included engineers from GM, Caterpillar, Continental and others, as well as students from Carnegie Mellon University. The winner among the 12 vehicles entered in the challenge? The Boss, of course.
