True to his simple lifestyle, Pope Francis is now driving around in a new Popemobile, namely a topless Hyundai Santa Fe with no clear protective barrier so His Holiness can remain accessible.
The barrier was installed on previous Mercedes-Benz-based Popemobiles after the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II, who was shot in 1981.
According to The Motor Report, the Hyundai Santa Fe convertible features a 2.2L CRDi turbo-diesel engine producing around 194 horsepower. Le Blog Auto adds that bodyguard platforms, grab bars, executive-style rear seats, and folding running boards are also part of the mix.
This doesn't mean Hyundai plans to release a Santa Fe Cabriolet anytime soon, however.
