BMW impresses performance buffs with Toronto debuts
Any hot-blooded performance enthusiast would have been sufficiently thrilled by BMW's unveilings at the Toronto Auto Show earlier this afternoon.
The German carmaker displayed their new 1-Series Cabriolet and M3 Sedan to audiences demonstrating a comprehensive approach to performance motoring at two distinct price points.
For buyers after a wind-in-their-hair experience, the new 1-Series Cabriolet will be available in 128i and 135i trims when it goes on sale later this year. The convertible models boast a quick-acting motorized top that drops in seconds and features metallic fibres to help it blend visually with the paint.
1-Series Cabriolet models are powered by the same selection of inline six-cylinder engines as their hard-topped counterparts, topping out as the 135i Cabriolet with 300 horsepower and twin turbochargers. This little lightweight is seriously going to haul.
Should a twin-turbocharged punch not prove sufficient, a free-revving V8 mill is available to the discerning right-foot, in the new BMW M3 Sedan. The four-door packs 414 clean horsepower from its new V8 engine, and engineers have ensured that the new car delivers stand-out performance and power while using less fuel than the previous generation. It also revs to well over 8,000 RPM's, which is just awesome. M3 is also available in a coupe or convertible body style.
Pricing for the 2008 M3 lineup is as follows: $69,900 for the sedan, $71,300 for the coupe and $81,900 for the convertible. They will be on sale starting May 17th.
