The R1e concept is an exercise on behalf of Subaru to advance the plight of the electric car. Based on the production R1 found in Japan, the R1e demonstrates a clear advantage over the "conventional" electric vehicle. The R1e's lithium-ion battery pack can be 90% recharged in only 15 minutes compared to an average of 8 hours for the others when using a 200V outlet. This microcar carries the distinctive Subaru corporate grille and is also designed as a 2+2 people carrier.

Subaru also announced that they will be offering Sirius or XM satellite radio as an option on all 2007 model year vehicles.
