The Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) is an organization of 11 automobile clubs catering to more than 4 million members via 130 offices nationwide. The CAA is also associated with 95 countries. The federation offers a large spectrum of member services that assist in everyday motoring and travelling conditions.
It is essential to understand the voting process affiliated with the CAA award. Determining the winners in all categories is tabulated on the votes of 20,000 members of the organization based on the following criteria:
- Total incidence of repair during the past year
- Total repair and maintenance costs for the past year
- Overall satisfaction with the vehicle on a ten-point scale
- Satisfaction with dealership sales
- Satisfaction with dealership service and,
- Percentage of respondents who would buy the same vehicle if they could go back in time to the moment of purchase

Based on the voting process, Camry owners rated their 1997-2001 models in a survey based on a scale of 1-10. The average score, 8.99, was the highest overall rating. The extreme satisfaction of the vehicle owners was based on the statistics that their Camry needed 46% less repairs than the average vehicle of that category. In addition, it cost owners 27% less to fix their sedan compared to the average vehicle. Ninety-eight percent of Camry owners said that if they were to go back in time, they would make the same decision to purchase their vehicle.
