The FJ Cruiser is a tribute to Toyota's legendary FJ 40 and Land Cruiser. It is built on a modified Tacoma platform. This Concept vehicle is aimed at young buyers but should also appeal to older crowds that will instantly recognize the headlight/grille setup. Its off-road capabilities should be excellent thanks to a 4WD system with low-range and 33" tires mounted on 20" wheels. The FJ Cruiser will be perfect for rock-climbing as well because of a proportionally long wheelbase, a wide track and long-travel rear coil-over suspension. Power comes from a supercharged 3.4L V6 engine that develops 250 hp. It is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Exterior features include side-view mirror spotlights, a retractable two-piece rear window, front towing hitch and rear access doors. Other notables are a removable portable GPS device and a TRD cat-back exhaust system.

Toyota has announced that the FJ will go into production in 2006, although it will be different from the concept. It will be powered by Toyota's newer 245-hp 4.0L V6 engine.
