A 4-wheel independent suspension with stabilizer bar, twin-tube gas- filled shock absorbers and MacPherson struts with coil springs in front, plus a dual wishbone configuration with trailing arms, gas-filled shocks and coil springs in the rear, provide both a comfortable ride and optimal handling. Variable power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering works with the suspension to provide balanced control.
Power-assisted ventilated disc brakes in front and drums in the rear provide stable stopping performance. The optional Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is enhanced with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), which detects minute front to rear speed differences and electronically prevents rear wheel lockup.

RAV4's interior is designed to enhance comfort and convenience as well as driving enjoyment. The base RAV4, which will share the sporty hood scoop, front grille and black headlight surrounds with the "Chili" edition, is well equipped with power windows and doorlocks, power remote heated mirrors, 4-speaker, AM/FM sound system with CD player, accessory power outlets, and lots of convenient storage.
Fully reclining front bucket seats incorporate a seat height adjustment for the driver. The 50/50 split bench rear seats can slide, tumble, recline or be completely removed to increase cargo capacity. A rear privacy cover has been added to RAV4's standard equipment across the lineup.
The 2003 RAV4 may be easily customized with several option packages. "Package B" includes keyless entry, air conditioning, cruise control, full-colour front and rear bumpers and body side molding, roof rack, and a soft tire cover.
