FSI, or Fuel Stratified Injection is a technology used by Audi to enhance performance and efficiency of their engines. In effect, the system extracts the most possible combustion from every intake shot: meaning every molecule of fuel is put to the best possible use. Long story short, FSI engines tend to be very reasonable on fuel given their power output.
Turbocharging and FSI working together creates an even more-impressive engine--with enhanced response and performance. Turbo FSI engines have been tested the world over on race tracks and on the road.
It shows--as in North America, we have a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 200 horsepower which was voted as an "Engine of the Year" three times in a row.
What we don't have is the new 1.4-litre TFSI (Turbocharged Fuel Stratified Injection) engine. It's clean and mean--with six-hole injectors to optimize fuel mix in the combustion chamber, and an output of 125 horsepower and 200 Newton-metres of torque. That's German for 148 lb-ft.
The new 1.4 TFSI engine will be available in the Audi A3 and A3 Sportback with a six-speed gearbox--but not in Canada.
