Compact SUV: Jeep Wrangler
Finalists: Subaru Crosstrek, Toyota RAV4

Wait, what? Can the Jeep Wrangler be considered a compact SUV? We agree that in its short wheelbase version, the world's most famous 4x4 is more compact than anything else, but in its Unlimited trim (a four-door version), the Wrangler walks, talks and acts much more like a mid-size duck.
Be that as it may, the legendary 4x4 wins the title of best vehicle in its segment for 2020 for best retained value. Which is hardly surprising, as the Wrangler is one of the most popular vehicles on the market, whether new or not-so-new. Its selling price as a pre-owned vehicle is often very high.

Mid-size SUV: Toyota 4Runner
Finalists: Toyota Highlander, Mazda CX-9

The Toyota 4Runner is considered one of the most robust vehicles on the planet. Its resale value is therefore very high, which explains why the retained value after four years on the road is so solid.
Still though, it’s quite something to see the trusty 4Runner come out ahead of more-comfortable and more-accommodating three-row SUVs like the Highlander and the CX-9. Surely the fact that it can handle rough terrain, not to mention that legendary Toyota reliability, contributed to its top ranking on the CBB list for 2020.
