Volkswagen announced today that its product portfolio would be streamlined in order to reach a wider range of consumers. Their "volks" or "people's" pricing strategy aims to provide a high level of standard features at appealing prices, while no doubt moving the brand to a higher value-position in the market.

Launched with the all-new Rabbit, the new pricing plan includes 2007 Beetle and Eos convertible models.

For 2007, the new Beetle has a starting price of just $22,780, compared with the 2006 version which was priced at $24,490. A similar price drop is applied to the Beetle convertible model as well. Even with the reduced price, the Beetle has an impressive list of standard features including cruise control, keyless entry, anti-theft alarm, heated front seats, power locks and ESP. More for less is always a good thing, and VW can expect this plan to pay off in long-term sales.

The 2007 Eos Convertible is in showrooms now, and features the same value-added features and pricing strategy as other vehicles covered by the "volks" plan. Standard features include a 200 horsepower turbo engine, ESP, thorax airbags, air conditioning, fog lamps, safety optimized headrests, 17-inch wheels and a Homelink transmitter. The Eos also sports an innovative CSC (Coupe, Sunroof, Convertible) roof mechanism allowing for a versatile motoring experience.

Pricing starts at $36,900.
