Volkswagen is rolling out out another iteration of its Cross Coupé concept in Geneva, a handsome compact SUV that first appeared in Tokyo last fall with a hybrid powertrain that included a direct-injection gas engine. This version features a turbodiesel direct-injection engine and two electric motors, for combined fuel consumption according to NEDC of 1.8L/100km. Amazing, especially when you consider it has a top speed of 220 km/h.
The plug-in hybrid diesel Cross Coupé is based on VW’s Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform, which should make for a smart, sporty driving experience. This Cross Coupé gets from zero to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, its TDI developing almost 300 lb-ft of torque from just 1,750 rpm. Two e-motors deliver 133 lb-ft at the front and 200 at the rear. During boosting, the whole shebang is good for more than 500 lb-ft. In pure electric mode, it has a top speed of 120 km/h and a range of 45 km.
