Team MINI had still not confirmed its presence in the 2012 WRC championship at the inscriptions’ deadline on Monday night.
In 2011, the british brand made its WRC return with two MINI Countryman driven by Dani Sordo and Kris Meeke on selected races of the calendar. Team Prodrive, which ran the cars, is in talks with BMW – the MINI WRC program’s main backer.
However, this delay should not compromise MINI’s presence in WRC, but it reflects the difficulties Prodrive are going through to finalize its program for next year. The FIA should provide with an extension for MINI to formalize its presence in WRC in 2012.
