From the World Rally Championship
Petter Solberg (Citroen C4) still leads Rally Japan after day 2, as Hirvonen (Ford) and Ogier (Citroen) slowed down in the last stages of the day.
After leading the race on day 1, Solberg dropped down in classification after a penalty for a jump start at the begining of ESS13. Latvala unherited the first position, but he had to slow down two stages later after a driveshaft issue. He dropped down to 5th place.
Hirvonen (Ford) and Ogier (Citroen), who moved up in first positions, decided to slow down in the last stage in order to change their starting order tomorrow, fearing that to start first would be costly on the dirty roads of Japan. Solberg was back in the lead, 3.7 seconds ahead of Hirvonen, before the last day of racing.
Dani Sordo (Citroen C4) stood in 4th position on Saturday afternoon, ahead of Latvala and Sébastien Loeb. The French driver looks to struggle a bit in Japan, and will probably wait Rally de France to be crowned.
Classification after day 2:
1. P. Solberg-Patterson (Citroen C4) in 2h28’46’’1
2. Hirvonen-Lehtinen (Ford Focus) + 3’’7
3. Ogier-Ingrassa (Citroen C4) +5’’4
4. Sordo-Vallejo (Citroen C4) + 15’’3
5. Latvala-Anttila (Ford Focus) +22’’4
6. Loeb-Elena (Citroen C4) + 37’’9
7. H. Solberg-Minor (Ford Focus) +2’07’’2
