Yvan Müller (Chevrolet) followed suit to his Monza victory by claiming pole during qualifying of the Valencia round, ahead of Gabriele Tarquini (SEAT) and Tom Coronel (BMW)

And Müller almost didn't even make it out of Q1, after the new fastest lap he had posted was disallowed by the stewards, because they judged he had clipped an apex to much.

Coronel also got through in dramatic fashion, spending most of the session in the pits while the crew serviced a broken driveshaft.

In Q2, Müller rediscovered his composure and clocked a lap in 1min42.228s, that seemed endangered only by Tarquini's charge. But the Italian ruined his effort with an off.
