After the new VW Atlas and the reinvented Tiguan, meet the T-Roc!

Volkswagen has made clear its view that the future for automobiles worldwide is electric; the German manufacturer has gone so far as to set a goal of selling over 30 electric-vehicle models by 2025.

In the near-term, though – and this is particularly so in North America – VW’s success is going to hinge on the performance of its SUVs. After the Atlas, a new 7-seat SUV that we reviewed for you on snow and on the open road, the company introduced the second-generation Tiguan, given a longer wheelbase and now also able to accommodate seven occupants. Now its lineup is set to welcome a new member, the Volkswagen T-Roc.

Based on the T-ROC concept, the new compact SUV – smaller than the Tiguan – will compete in one of the most hotly contested segments in the current automotive market. The T-Roc aims to dent the popularity of the Jeep Compass, Subaru Crosstrek and other consumer favourites in the small-SUV class.
