2003 Porsche 911 Targa - The Perfect Combination of Coupe and Convertible

Does life get any better than this? Sure some would rather have a full 911 convertible, but for me the additional structural integrity inherent in the Targa's coupe design is worth the tradeoff. Besides, its full glass panel slides back to almost completely open up the roof.

It's a slick design, incorporating full length sunroof-like tracks that drop the glass roof under and parallel to the rear hatch. I never tired of opening it up, whether clouds or sunshine, the wind skirting overtop my head just catching the brow slightly, not enough to cause commotion but just enough to add some spice to an otherwise average day.

Of course with a Porsche Targa in the garage, or just about any Porsche for that matter, days will never be average again. To coin an old but particularly apropos phrase, all of a sudden there's an entirely new reason to wake up in the morning.

The 3.6-L horizontally-opposed 6-cylinder relates a magical exhaust note, along with 320 spine-tingling horsepower and 273 lb-ft of neck-jarring torque. One hundred kilometers per hour takes only 5.0-seconds. Sure there are quicker but few as refined, and none that come closes to resembling the phat combination of sounds emanating from deep within the rear engine bay. It's a tractable engine too, with tons of torque way down in its lower rev range thanks to a fair dose of displacement and variable-valve timing.
