Nearly 10 million US dollars. That's the price a buyer paid for a 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Special Roadster

Someone paid a whopping $9.9 million USD to buy a 1937 Mercedes-Benz 540 K Special Roadster with just 10,277 miles (16,539 km) on the counter. Yet, it feels like a letdown.

RM Auctions Sotheby’s, which hosted the auction on January 28-29, claims the German convertible was initially valued at anywhere between $10 million and $13 million USD ($14 million to $18 million CAD).

Only 419 units were ever produced, each one retailing for about $14,000 USD at the time — that’s 40% more expensive than the most luxurious Cadillac. This particular model still has all its original parts including a 5.4L inline 8-cylinder engine.
