Other than the rear end wiggle I drove the Jag for the better part of a year without a single hiccup. It was absolutely reliable, making previous experiences with the aforementioned electrically challenged Bavarian marque pale in comparison. But before you go out and drop ten large for the pre-owned luxury car of your dreams another warning. My 1990 model's stellar reliability just happened to be the direct result of a new relationship with Ford that began the year prior.

Traditional Jag lovers had trouble accepting the model's starkly rectangular taillights, especially after abandoning the lovely triangular shaped lenses that adorned the previous model. (Photo: Jag-lovers.org)

I've heard horrific stories of pre-Ford Jaguars (1987 to 1989 in this particular model), reasons enough for the brand's shady reliability history. Contrarily new models currently rate very high in J.D. Powers various owner satisfaction surveys, but still the leaping cat brand's stigma of shoddy reliability lingers on. It seems unfair, but reputations are built up over decades and it's only been just over one for the luxury marque under blue oval ownership.
