While Ford added reliability they didn't take any positive Jaguar attributes away. Its classic lines, luxuriously appointed interior and sporty performance are unique to the XJ, giving the car the respect of all who take notice. It's true. The Jaguar pulls eyeballs like no German or Japanese car can, giving its owner an often unearned perception of wealth. Spend $10,000 on an XJ6 and your neighbors will be lining up to see if they can share in the winnings. I've owned at least a single example of every mass-produced luxury marque sold in Canada, and none has caused friends and relatives to bow down as if royalty has arrived like my 1990 Sovereign. That's either a boon or a bane depending on your need for attention.
Would I buy another? Considering that last statement the question might reveal too much about my character. But based on the price of entry and its general ongoing livability a 1990 through 1994 XJ6 is a good bet. Just make sure you're up for the attention.
